Akshay Kumar :
While this brawny actor has always been associated with mid-air
action and physical enterprise, the new role he’ll be playing
requires him to practice his more understated skills. The newly
elected Indian ambasador for the 2005 Special Olympics will accompany
his team of intellectually challenged participants to Nagano,
Japan where the bi-yearly games will be held in their winter
session,
in February. Akshay, who witnessed similarly challenged athletes
perform at the 2000 Atlanta Olympics, was moved by the sportsmanship
and camaraderie they displayed, and in commenting on his view
duty, indicated that he wants to change discriminating mindsets
that assign near-in-visible status to these alternately gifted
people. |
