Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose : The
Forgotten Hero :
Cast : Sachin Khedekar, Anna Prustel,
Rajeshwari Sachdev.
Direction : Shyam Benegal
Rating : *
* 1/2.
We’ve had Gandhi, Ambedkar, as heroes of celluloid. Now
we get Bose as the mover from Shyam Benegal.
The Film is epical
in scale - it sees Bose escaping from Calcutta jail, passing
into Peshawar, escaping across Afghanistan, seeking refuge in
Germany, seiling in a U-boat to Japan and setting up the Azad
Hind Fauj from his South-Eastern headquarters.
Till the end,
it remains a piece of documentary - you’ll find loads
of historical information but you won’t find a heart and
soul to the characters.

Among the characters, it’s easy to pick out Rajit Kapoor
as the only one who manages to lend the only one who manages
to lend flesh and blood to history text.
Strangely, even Rajeshwari
- a fine actress otherwise- is lack-lustre as Captain Lakshmi
Sehgal.
