Nine on Nine, Nandita C. Puri :
Women are getting more prolific these days. Specially Indian
women. And it’s resulted in a spate of book releases.
However not everything that makes it to the stores quite hacks
it. And Nine
On Nine is one such book. On First read there is nothing really
wrong with it. The language is fine if a bit colloquial, but
this
news paper columnist can carry it off. It’s the stories
themselves. They go nowhere, dragging in their pace, boring
in
their content and never rising above the banal. And that’s
the pity because Puri is actually a really perceptive writer.
Her short stories however stay true to the cliche. It’s
also a pity that she never takes on Bollywood. As actor Om Puri’s
wife she was sure to have an inside view.
Brief : Buy the
book if you are lookig for a light read. There is nothing really
wrong with the book. it just misses being right! Rupa, Rs. 295. |
